What I attempted to capture in sculpting ARABESQUE was the grace and power I felt riding my first purebred Arabian mare, Al-Marah Sahara Sue. Especially at the trot, her lightness and extension reminded me of nothing more than a ballerina performing the arabesque. Not wanting to do a self-portrait, I put a favorite early riding instructor on her back.
