JOYA is my very first bronze lost wax casting. I sculpted him after my first animal sculpture workshop with Dan Ostermiller where I learned to build armatures and more importantly to build muscle and skin upon an anatomically correct skeleton. I chose JOYA as a tribute to my late husband, Hyram Kitchen, DVM, PhD, whose professional relationship with the zoo world offered me unique opportunities to study exotic species close-up.
