TAKING FLIGHT began as a maquette for a larger memorial piece featuring a Florida Whitetail deer. Creating Whitetail deer has been a trip down memory lane for me bringing back our years raising members of the deer tribe so my Veterinarian husband Hy could characterize their hemoglobins as part of his Ph.D. dissertation "The sickling Phenomenon of Deer Erythrocytes". During those years we hand raised nearly 400 fawns in our home, so sculpting deer comes as naturally to me as sculpting equines. This deer is based on memories of "Amos".
